Why did NamPower inaugurate anixas II power station?
NamPower Commissions Anixas II Power Station to Strengthen National Power Supply. NamPower has officially inaugurated the Anixas II Power Station, a new facility aimed at enhancing Namibia’s electricity generation capacity. The power station was formally opened on 5 March 2025 by President Dr. Nangolo Mbumba during a ceremony held in Walvis Bay.
Why is NamPower launching a new power station?
NamPower stated that the new facility aims to provide reliable and dispatchable electricity to the national grid, supporting the country’s energy needs and improving security of supply. The station is also expected to assist in managing the variability of renewable energy sources by providing backup generation when needed.
When did NamPower start construction of Walvis Bay?
NamPower began construction of the station in Walvis Bay after signing an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with FK Namibia joint venture (JV) in March 2022.
What does NamPower do?
“NamPower is committed to supporting and achieving the government objectives as set out in the national planning policies, and in particular the National Integrated Resource Plan (NIRP) and the 5th National Development Plan (NDP5),” the power utility said.
